White River Junction, Vt. - Hundreds of Vermont postal workers are still uncertain about the future of their jobs.

Worker held protests Tuesday, fighting cuts that could cost roughly 250 Vermonters their jobs. The proposed cuts by the Postal Service would shut down 252 mail centers across the country.

Protests have been going on since the plan was announced last Fall. But now, it is getting down to the wire with cuts scheduled for mid-May.

Some postal workers hope a plan in the U.S. Senate will save them.

"Help the postal service not only get over its financial difficulties but maybe find new streams of revenue for the future," Worker Wayne Martin Jr. Said.

The bill, championed by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, would only close 125 mail processing centers instead of 252. It would also slow down the closings of rural post offices. It would even give the postal service $11 billion to refund over-payments the organization made.

If the bill passes the Senate, there is still one large hurdle.

"The House is not quite as supportive," Martin said.
