Vermont Breaks World Record for More Cowbell

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Ben and Jerry's celebrated today in Burlington for the 15th anniversary of their Phish Food ice cream and they needed more cowbell.  The Guinness book of world records was there in hopes of beating the recent cowbell record of 640 people and they did. Thousands of people showed up to ring the cowbells. Phish drummer Jon Fishman lead what he hoped would be the world's largest cowbell ensemble. Participants paid to be part of the event, and thousands of people signed up.

"As important as ice cream is and music is, the most important thing is community, right? It is for all of us in Vermont. That's both for Phish and Ben and Jerry's and so the water wheel foundation they started fifteen years ago. They started it because they wanted to use the proceeds from their flavor to be able to help give back to the community," said Sean Greenwood with Ben and Jerry's.

Money raised will go to the Waterwheel Foundation's ‘Vermont Flood Recovery Fund' to help communities as they continue to recover from tropical storm Irene. The foundation was founded by the band Phish, which got its start in Burlington.
