GUILFORD, Vt. -

Vermont State Police are investigating a call that requested a Guilford resident to pay money for an outstanding loan.

According to a press release, the caller told the resident that if she did not pay the money for an outstanding loan, she would be subject to a law suit and arrested.

The resident did not send any money and called the Vermont State Police to report the incident.

Vermont State Police say they have received numerous calls about people demanding money over the telephone.

If you receive a phone call demanding money, contact your local law authority and do not provide any personal information to the caller including social security numbers or your date of birth.

Police also say to check your credit report to make sure you are not a victim of identity theft.
