4.3.12 Dallas/Fort Worth Area Tornadoes

Posted: Updated:

Pretty incredible images out of the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area Tuesday afternoon. Multiple tornado touchdowns occurred in and around the Dallas area beginning late Tuesday morning (local time) and lasting until the evening hours. Check out this video (link below) of tractor trailor trucks being tossed around like toys!

This is severe weather season for Texas, so tornadoes are not rare for the area in April. What is a bit more unusual is the touchdown within a metro area. While Dallas is massive, the spatial area of the metro is, of course, much smaller than all the surrounding area. The liklihood of a city being hit by a tornado is always more rare then the surrounding suburbs.

Several tornadoes occured Tuesday in and around the Dallas area, including nearby suburbs and surrounding counties. As of 10pm, there were at least 18 confirmed tornadoes  within that area today. Amazingly, no deaths have been reported, but several injuries and widespread damage occured.

Most flights in and out of Dallas-Fort Worth airport were cancelled due to the severe weather.

Here's what it looked like on Fox44's Triple Doppler Radar. The little red polygons were active tornado warnings at the time.
