
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Now that the Democrat at the center of a sexual harassment scandal in the state Assembly has resigned, the Democratic majority is planning reforms. An expulsion effort to remove Vito Lopez of Brooklyn was derailed by his resignation effective today. Because of that, the public process to review the investigation into his case has also been stopped.
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The Cuomo administration has released a confidential e-mail from a reporter seeking information for a story. The reporter, Fred Dicker of the New York Post, called it "highly unprofessional" and shocking. The Cuomo administration gave Dicker's e-mail to 10 competitors today. It also released a spokesman's response about a high-level executive leaving the administration, the subject of Dicker's query.
POTSDAM, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a man is in critical condition after being hit by a freight train in northern New York. The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office tells WWNY-TV in Watertown that when deputies arrived on the scene late Sunday night they found 45-year-old Kevin Seig on the railroad bed in the town of Potsdam, near where he lives.
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York's inspector general says state sting operations aimed at the black market in cigarettes had such weak investigative protocols and financial controls that money went missing and prosecutions were dismissed. Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott says the Department of Taxation and Finance couldn't account for $160,000 of lost cash from covert sales in one case.
