Skytracker Forecast: What to Expect

Posted: Updated:

Round 1 of winter weather is done and over. Several inches of fresh snow fell Thursday, with  2-5" for many areas of Vermont, New York, and interior New Hampshire. Woodford, Vermont reports just over 9" of snowfall! Totals were minor right in the Champlain Valley with less than one-inch for some, leaving many people asking for more!

Round 2 is poised to bring more wintry weather to the north country by Friday afternoon. A mild start to Friday will be followed colder temperatures by lateday and additional snow accumulation for many areas. Our Sky Tracker meteorologists say a few snow squalls may also develop Friday afternoon as much colder air pushes into the area. Snow squalls can put down a quick inch and briefly lower visibility to a mile or less. Snow totals for Friday should again be minor for valleys with 2 inches or less, but several inches over the higher terrain. Our Sky Tracker meteorologists and state transportation leaders are concerned for areas along the western facing slopes of the mountains, including the notorious stretch of I-89 around the Bolton Flats. Locally very high snow totals and cold temperatures are expected through Saturday morning in this area.
