Polar Express Train Rolls Into Burlington

Posted: Updated:

Burlington, Vermont- Santa is making his rounds in Vermont, the Polar express train is in motion and the ride is doing more than spreading Christmas cheer. This is the 10th year for the Vermont Children's Trust Foundation to host the Polar Express.

"We'll have 3,600 passengers this weekend on the Polar Express," said Fagan Hart with the Vermont Children's Trust Foundation.

It's a train ride from Burlington to the North Pole and lots in between.

"You'll be greeted by a sea of elves, and you'll hear the story, you'll have the Polar Express story read to you and then we have a visit from a very special visitor. Santa Clause comes and hands out a bell," said Hart.

The foundation hopes to raise around 100,000 dollars that will help local kids.

"We put the proceeds of the event towards our prevention programs which we fund all over the state," said Hart.

Over 700 volunteers helped to make this Christmas dream come true and organizers say it's a lengthy process.

"We spend a pretty good chunk of the year getting organized for the Vermont Children's Trust Foundation's Polar Express," said Hart.

They say the hard work is nothing compared to the smiles they see on the children's faces.

"We're just delighted to give every kid a little slice of something wonderful at Christmas time and this is what our programs are about."

In ten years, the train has given rides to over 31,000 people.
