Jon Lester takes the mound tonight, trying to become the first Boston lefthander in 40 seasons to start the year 7-0. The Red Sox knocked off Minnesota 5-1 yesterday to complete a 3-game sweep.
KENT, Wash. (AP) - Police say Celtics guard Terrence Williams was arrested Sunday and accused of brandishing a gun at the mother of his 10-year-old son during a visitation exchange in Washington state. He was booked into a Seattle jail early today for investigation of an assault charge, with a court appearance expected later in the day.
BOSTON (AP) -The Bruins have a day off before their playoff series with the Rangers shifts to New York. The B's have a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinal series following yesterday's 5-2 victory at TD Garden. Johnny Boychuk broke a tie midway through the second period, and the Boston Bruins scored two goals in the third to secure the win.
(AP) - Going into his 14th season, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady tells Sports Illustrated that he's "never had more confidence" in how he's throwing the football. Brady has been working with ex-major league pitcher Tom House on his throwing mechanics. Brady tells SI.com that he's learned some things from House "that are really going to help me."
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Former Patriots wide receiver Chad Johnson has been arrested on charges that he violated probation stemming from an altercation with his now ex-wife, TV reality star Evelyn Lozada. A Broward County judge ordered Johnson jailed today until he posts a $1,000 bond. Another hearing was set for June 3. An arrest warrant was issued earlier this month when Johnson failed to meet his probation officer.
BOSTON (AP) - NFL owners will vote on the sites of the 50th and 51st Super Bowls tomorrow at their spring meetings. The San Francisco area, where a new stadium is being built in Santa Clara, and South Florida are competing for the the 50th edition, to be held in February 2016. The loser in that bidding will go against Houston to host the 51st game the following year.
BOSTON (AP) - Fewer than 4% of youth players surveyed in a USA Football-sanctioned study suffered concussions in the 10 leagues examined. Most injuries among nearly 2,000 players on more than 100 teams in six states were minor, with the youngsters returning to play the same day. More than 90% of the players did not suffer any injuries, and of those who did, the most common were contusions (35%) and ligament sprains (15%).
